New Food Allergen Terminologies
At Flame Tree we are committed to providing food that meets high safety and suitability standards and we understand the importance of allergen management and awareness. We have a comprehensive allergen management plan in place and while we take every precaution to avoid cross-contamination, we cannot guarantee our dishes are 100% free from trace amounts of allergens.
It is important to note that our kitchen handles a diverse range of ingredients, including Gluten, Wheat, Milk/Dairy, Egg, Soy, Fish, Shellfish*, Tree Nuts*, Peanuts, Sesame, Sulphites, and Lupin. Products from our suppliers may also be manufactured in facilities where allergen-containing ingredients are present.
*Shellfish includes all mollusc and crustacean. Tree Nuts include, but is not limited to, common Tree Nuts like almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pistachio, walnut, and pine nut.
Please note that there is new food allergen terminology used in your dining hall.
What are the changes?
Meals with allergens will no longer be labelled with abbreviations or symbolised icons, such as GF (Gluten Free), or DF (Dairy Free). These will be replaced with full wordings:
Made Without Gluten
Made Without Dairy
Additionally, for those at Waiparuru Hall, catered dietaries will not be shown on each station’s TV screens. Instead, check out the “Available Today” display located at every station.
Why?
We have updated how we declare which allergens are present in our meals to align with the new allergen labelling rules from the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and to better guide you in making safe and informed choices when choosing your meals.
What does it mean for you?
Our Flametree team will continue to ensure all dietary requirements are safely catered for, to the best of our abilities.
During meal service:
Check out the new menu labels to see what meals are suitable for your dietary needs.
Continue checking the allergen declaration card on display at the serveries before meal selection.
If you are unsure of what to have, or have any questions about the meals, do not hesitate to ask one of our staff!
We take food allergies seriously and will do our best to ensure all dietary requirements are accommodated.
